This summer, the Quarticle team took a break from screens and sprint boards and got on the road for a team-building trip that combined time off, fun experiences, and a meaningful attendance at FOSS4G Europe

Starting from our home base in Arad, Romania, we road-tripped through Dubrovnik and made our way to Mostar for a week of open-source geospatial inspiration, great conversations, and community spirit.

First Stop: Dubrovnik – Space to Recharge

Our first destination, Dubrovnik, Croatia, is a stunning coastal city that gave us the perfect backdrop to unwind. Dubrovnik gave us space to recharge and reflect on how far we’ve come. For many of us, it was also the first time spending more time together outside the day-to-day of remote and hybrid collaboration.

A scenic view of Dubrovnik, a historic coastal town with stone walls and arches along a waterfront promenade, small boats docked in the calm harbor, and hillside covered in white buildings with red roofs under a partly cloudy sky.

"It was the perfect setting to get to know each other better; a road trip along the stunning Dalmatian coast, with Dubrovnik as our perfect stop to take in the sun, soak up the history, and enjoy some well-earned gelato." - Cristina Oneț, Product Designer at Quarticle

Second Stop: Mostar – Open Source, Open Conversations

Our journey continued to Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina, a hidden gem known for its stunning historic architecture and vibrant cultural atmosphere. We sponsored and attended FOSS4G Europe, which is always a great opportunity for connecting with the wider geospatial community, to listen, learn, and discuss with others working in open source GIS (and of course, to swap stickers).

For some of us, it was a first-time experience at a FOSS4G event. For others, it was a chance to revisit familiar faces and stay in touch with developments across the field. As active contributors to the open GIS ecosystem, being part of this event felt natural and energizing.

"It was a pleasure to attend FOSS4G Europe 2025 in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event brought together a great mix of open-source GIS professionals, and I appreciated the chance to reconnect with familiar faces and meet new people from across the geospatial community.

I especially enjoyed the sessions on QGIS and GeoServer, packed with useful insights and practical ideas. As a Gold Sponsor, Quarticle had a visible presence, and it was rewarding to have meaningful conversations with attendees about our work and our support for the open-source ecosystem.

A big thank-you to the organizers for a well-run event. Mostar, with its history, landmarks, and welcoming atmosphere, made for a fitting backdrop to a few days of sharing knowledge and building connections." - Ionuț Ungurianu - Lead GIS Engineer at Quarticle

Why Team Adventures Like This Matter

After several full days packed with sessions, conversations, and community events, we returned to Arad energized, bringing back not just new insights but shared experiences that will shape how we work together.

Trips like this aren’t just a break from daily routines; they strengthen how we collaborate, challenge ideas, and build trust as a team. Spending time together as people first, outside the structured workspace, remains one of the most valuable ways to grow both individually and collectively.

Whether we’re on the road, on a client call, or representing our team at industry events, we take pride in standing for what defines us: quality, openness, and a genuine commitment to advancing open geospatial intelligence.
